So my beautiful neice Ashleigh Young nominated me for the Beauty Challenge. I hereby nominate Whitney Cecil Garcia, Delores Kruczek, Cody Brown-Weller, Elizabeth Reynolds, Janet Ballard Jacklin, and Nayeli G. to pick up the challenge from here. Dear Ashleigh and all my beautiful sister/friends out there. Thank you so much for honoring me with the beauty challenge. When I asked you what it was, I was thinking of looking up all the old glamour pics of me when I was younger. The more I thought about it, the less appealing it became to me. Every wrinkle on my face has been earned. Every scar on my body has a story to tell (the V shaped mark on my index finger is from rescuing a chipmunk from one of the cats when I was 8 years old and the chipmunk rewarded me with a bite). My belly is no longer flat. It has rounded with age and has the stretchmarks that proudly bear witness to the act of giving birth. Our society today puts too much emphasis on looking forever young. I am almost 62 years old and am proud of how I look and proud of my body and every wrinkly, line and imperfection. If more women would learn to love who and what they are inside, the beauty industry would go bankrupt, which wouldnt necessarily be a bad thing. I still wear makeup, dont get me wrong, but who I am on the inside, the way I connect with other people, the earth and other living things is what makes me feel beautiful, not my outward appeance.
