So my morbid curiosity confirmed something I had a bad feeling about today. While paddling the seemingly endless waterways of south Florida, I have often wondered how many human remains I am passing over and where they might be. Since roadside canals accompany many of our roadways, we seem to have at least one or two news stories a year about how a decades-old mystery is solved by discovery of vehicles in canals containing human remains. In addition, a fair number of murder victims have ended up in them over the years. So when this story broke yesterday, I had a bad feeling that the location was in waters I regularly paddle in my kayak. I went out there today to check it out, and sure enough, law enforcement was scouring a stretch of canal I have paddled dozens of times. So strange to think that I have been within a few feet of these poor babies many times. Next time I go, I will say a little prayer for them.......
