So several weeks ago I had two barn swallows insist on creating digs on my front porch. I tried to convince them otherwise but they were insistent. The color of the porch, high desert brown, matched something in there psyche. Anyway they won, and built the cutest single level mud nest with a flat on top entry way I have ever seen. The newlywed couple introduced themselves as Bob and Betty. Betty has been sitting dutifully these past couple of weeks. Today Bob lined the nursery with feathers of a recently deceased dove, nothing goes to waste around here. And the soon to be proud parents are anxiously planning their new role. They are very clear that sundown means lights out and no flipping on the porch lights after dark. Today Bob was also showing the location to another handsome barn swallow male and I think Bob may have plans to subdivide the porch and and sell off lots for a subdivision.
