So so Happy with my race results yesterday, finishing 2nd in the Tan Ultra Urban Trail Run 100km event in the time of 8:23. Once again I was beaten buy an absolutely gun runner, this time it was David Eadie who put in a great run. I really feel like my running is still improving and being anywhere close to the likes of Dave and Rick Cooke (in Adelaide) gives me a huge confidence boost. Before the race I set myself a huge goal of finishing under 8 hours, I knew that this would require everything going right and would be a big ask. The first half simply flew by, I was floating over the track and felt amazing. Time was flying by and everything was going perfectly. After this though my energy levels dropped off. My legs felt ok but I could just not maintain the same pace. In my last race in Adelaide I felt so great all day and never felt like a had to dig in, it was a pleasure 6 hour cruise around the track. This weekend was a different story. I had to really dig deep in the last 3 hours. Time slowed and running was tough. I am really happy that I could dig in although I was slower than my original goal I was able to keep moving. I was still running at 5:02 min / km on the last lap. Firstly I have to thank Annette Kelly for being the most amazing support crew possible. Everyone who has done this type of event in the past would understand how tough this is. She kept me fed and watered all day while also looking after our two girls who came to cheer me on. What an effort. Without Annettes support none of my running would be possible. I am incredibly grateful and thankful that I have such amazing support. It was very special to have the girls come and watch me run, I hope this gives them an insight into what I do :-) Next I have to thank Hanny Allston from FIND YOUR FEET. She has been couching me for 8 months now. In this time I have knocked 15 minutes of my 50km PB, 6km PB for my 6 hour race, and now 50 minutes off my 100km PB. She is an amazing mentor and coach who has helped me develop my running beyond my wildest dreams. I am so excited about the future of my running, I have no doubt that next year I will be so much quicker and stronger than I am now. I have been a back of the pack ultra runner for over 10 years, you have sent me on a meteoric path forwards. Thanks to Chilli Man, Malcolm Gamble, Brian Jones, Brett Saxon, Andy Hewat, Nikki Wynd, Darren Mooney and everone else out there who supported me on the course. The ultra running community is so damn amazing, I feel truly lucky to be part of this group of amazing people. There can be no other sport where people like me can be running in events with their heros (Malcolm G, Rick Cooke, Brendan Davies). Its a sport of inspiration, humble, amazing people. Well done to everyone who finished the various Tan runs, and thanks to Brett for once again putting on a top quality event. Now time to rest, recover and focus on my A race for the year - GOW100s 2014
