So the fire was put out! In a rather dramatic fashion also. Phew it had started to get super hot..but at 3am there was an almighty storm, you know those storms where you wake up and think/sing its the end of the world as you know it. Fire put out in like a few minutes, alas so much damage, the mountains are black now, not green, and I just see the end bits, many many kilometers of the Overberg was cleansed by the uncontrolled madness, a school is lost, a retirement home evacuated. General crazy night. But our local community rallied together (so cool) and took the pensioners into their homes, yes no school hall for them (besides I think it burnt down) but a safe bed and care during the madness. Ooorah! Social Media works in these situations. (it was cool to follow that) It is a natural cycle for nature to cleanse the Fynbos, but last night was silly. With the wind like that the patchwork forests didnt stand a chance and alas whole areas had to be evacuated, and everywhere is covered in ash! SA snow? But Ooorah to Hermanus Community!! Ooorah to the brave Firemen who did what they could (which was above and beyond). Loving Life!
