So the wife gets home. Tells me about the absolute ridiculousness - TopicsExpress

So the wife gets home. Tells me about the absolute ridiculousness of her day~ It reminded me of when I worked at the same place for years (H.E.B. grocery). So, Ill try to make sense of it all?.. First, I will start with my time there. I have a huge a mount of respect for the company and their method of conducting business. They push you hard, weed out the weak links and promote the over achievers, as well as keep the customers satisfied. It really is a great company to experience. When I worked there, I started on the over-night crew. I was working at Albertsons across the street at the time and would go in and see guys just blowing through cases (stocking), so I started doing the same at my job as practice. I got my case count up to like 13o-140 an hour, on avg (any isle) at Albertsons (I came from Kroger produce dept. before that). Eventually, do to some unrealistic corruption at Albertsons, I decided to bug the manager across the street. I mean, a few of these night stockers where just amazing and I pitched to the manager how I wanted to work with guys like that! He hired me! Being the low guy, I got the hard isles. Now at H.E.B. the base count per night was 80 at the time, no matter what isle. I felt comfortable and I busted my ass (My son was just born), every night. In a couple of months I earned everyone respect, learned their techniques and just kept on trying to beat the two top guys at the time. Eventually, a few months in, I was right there. I got the option to work more hrs (some times 65+) and that got my center precise (I was also still teaching martial arts). In less than a year I broke a few records (the store I was at was known for being #2 out of all sales and records). By doing well, I got offered the position of third, then second stock controller! I made my way to the top and got great raises too. Then I made top, then was for a short time offered the frozen management position. Which was really a part time job after doing my normal stocking. So, one day we get a new manager. We all where angry, because we loved our other manager. So, I kept trying to perfect my skills. I did my orders and chose the hardest isle (can veg, some cases had 36 cans). I stocked up, maximizing everything. A manager said, you cant stock all of this!? The clock started and I nailed it! Breaking a company record as well as my own... ...See, I through 188 cases that night (per hr). for over 10 hrs. I faced from the back to the front, every single can and not only was the entire isle fronted, I also had it clean with no trash left. That morning my new manager called me over with the store director and a group of managers. I thought I was in trouble? He pointed to one can and it was slightly tilted. My heart raced. He said this can was crooked. I was very confused. He told me to meet them in his office. I did a little later. They offered me the dairy management position! That is a big deal, because grocery only makes a penny per dollar while dairy made up to 80% of actual prophet! I did that gig and broke many more records in that department. Now, back to my wifes day. She has worked for the company for over 10 years. Rarely ever calls in. She manages the cake dept. She told her boss that she wanted go part time, do to starting her career at the college. She gets called into the Unit directors office with her manager, and they are telling her that they cant allow her to quit... cant allow her to take time off for her new career? LOL! So weird. She eventually explains reality to them and they are semi-trying to work with her. ??? It reminded me of when I walked out of that very same company. I had my fearless leader try to use my baby son against me as leverage to dictate numbers that would make him a bonus. I didnt say anything when he said that and I walked straight out the door. Some people arent worth your time. That is the point I am trying to make. Do your best, but dont bow down to dumb situations. Everyone is better than that! :)
