So this Duo Alex & Sierra is probably the best thing I have listened to in a really long time. Jena really likes them, and I had heard them a few times, but I listened to some more of their music, including some of their own stuff, and it is just amazing. The reason I am sharing it though, is because I wanted to say this: I have spent a lot of time lately looking for independent artists and groups on Youtube and other sites, and its because I have grown really tired of mainstream music. It has become way to forced and emotionless. Good music doesnt come from a good beat, or a good voice, or a good hook. Great music comes from the heart, from emotion. It doesnt matter if its love, hate, jealousy, compassion, pain, etc.. etc... What makes it great is that it is real. If you really listen to a song, you can tell if it matters to the artist or not. Take these two for example.. There are many songs in this Video that I didnt like at all, until they sang them. Music, like many other things an artist does, is an expression of ones self. Its very easy to tell the difference between an artist who is singing for fame and fortune, and an artist that is singing because they love to sing. That is why these two are so great. They sing with emotion.. With passion. They love each other, and they love what they are doing, and it just pours out of them when they sing. Its really incredible to watch actually. As a person who struggles with emotional expression in the real world, its great to see people finding other ways to express themselves. I love music. I love to write music. I love to sing.
