So this isnt supposed to be insensitive or a joke. This year, a white actress went as a black character from Orange is the new Black for halloween. To do her costume, she painted her face brown I.e. Blackface. Everyone got mad at her and said shes racist, which has confused me. I just see a person fitting in to the costume and a big part of the character and if youve seen the show, youll know, is that shes black and sassy and full of ghetto attitude. So Im wondering if someone can enlighten me as to what makes blackface so racially insensitive when used in even the lightest of moods ( and the actress is Juliann hough. She may as well be a saint). I feel like I should better understand how this is taboo.
