So this time a year ago I was at the beginning of my trip in Africa.. Prior to leaving, as you would remember, I was raising funds for the fundraising trek I was doing for EHRA in Namibia. I had always had the best intentions to keep everyone updated about the trek and let you know where your money actually went. Anyway, here we are almost a year since I did the trek, I thought it was time to share this! This is the Land cruiser that was purchased largely thanks to the money everyone on the trek raised. It might not seem like a lot, but I can personally vouch for the old beaten up vehicles that they were struggling with.. While out on patrol, quite literally in the middle of the Namibian desert, we experienced a breakdown. Luckily our guide knew a thing or two and was able to do a good enough bush-machanic job to get us limping back to camp. At which point we spent a few hours unloading all our gear and sorting it between the one functioning Land cruiser and an old Unimog!! I can only imagine what a difference it has made to the operation of EHRA out there in Damaraland. EHRA makes a genuine difference with Human-Elephant conflict, of all the 5 volunteer programs I joined this was the one where I actually felt useful for being there.
