So today I did one of the most exciting things (or so I think) Ive done my college career yet. If you did not know I am currently in a walking boot because I have a small unknown mass just above my ankle bone on the left leg. It has been there for about 8 weeks or more and after 2 X-rays and an MRI my doctor and I have no clue what it is. I have to find a physical therapist up here in Indy because although I really loved my Physical Therapist in Columbus it is to long of a drive to go see him. Since i am a Pre-PT student and I get to go to some meetings about being a Pre-PT student, I got approached by one of the Physical Therapy Professors about what why I was in a boot. She then said they have a professor that I might be able to go to for PT Indy. Well last week I sent the lady an email about my ankle and the history of it, she said I could meet her today in Martin Hall (the current facility that the DPT students learn in today!) at 4. She also explained some students might stay after class to see her evaluate me (I was extremely excited about that!). Today when I walked to the class I could here her telling the students about me before I came in. When I walked in there were about 40 Doctor of Physical Therapy Students (I was expecting around 5) so here I was just a little freshman in college in front of all these intimidating Graduate students. Right when I walked in they all greeted me and I was then told to tell the entire class about my ankle (I was in no way prepared for a large class let alone a speech! haha). So the professor looked at my ankle and explained to the students what she felt (Im pretty happy that I understood everything she told them!).The students asked some great questions and in the end she told me what she thought it was. I also happened to make the class laugh so that definitely made me happy. I am currently waiting for another professor to see if he can take me at his facility. I know this isnt that good of a story but since I want to be a PT so badly, it felt nice to work with some students that are in the position that I really hope I get to be in. It was also nice to feel like a celebrity for 30 minutes. This is definitely a story I hope to share with my patients when I am a physical therapist.
