So, today went okay. Just okay. Tim is really fighting the ventilator. Who wouldnt? But his oxygen still wont remain at the level it needs to. Its not dangerously low, but there is a number he must maintain to get the ventilator removed. And hes not there yet. The meds he was being given would sedate him for a while, but he would wake up fighting the ventilator. He almost got it out once. So, instead of injections, they put him on a sedation drip. Which, at the beginning, knocked him out and caused his blood pressure to plummet. They adjusted it the other way and that caused him to wake up if someone cleared their throat in the hallway. When I left, his nurse was pretty confident she had found a proper dose that would keep him relaxed and sleepy but not mess with his blood pressure. He was pretty wasted when I said goodnight. Ill call and check in a couple of hours to see if its working. They are going to try again tomorrow to see if he can keep his oxygen numbers up enough to take out the ventilator. Otherwise, he is recovering well from the actual surgery. Heart, incision good. No pneumonia.
