So tonight the first Imperial Knight was fielded in a game of 40k at NDWGC. The game itself was an 1850 point game between Tyranids commanded by the always cunning Rob Lex Cully and Space Marines using a single Knight commanded by Kyle Filson. Neither list was optimized for tournament play and was mainly used to see how the Imperial Knight would get on and how it handled on the field. I have to say the Knight handled itself pretty well on the field, charging forward while the rest of the Marines held their ground in the friendly deployment zone. During the game we came to the conclusion that while the Knight is an imposing model on the table it can still be locked in combat like any walker. Another conclusion we came to is the while both variants of the Knight have decent shooting ability these models if left unchallenged will just continually assault you until the unit they engage dies. Stomp is by far these models greatest asset, the Strength D chainsword it carries only truly excels against multiple wound creatures and characters. It is also by no means unkillable, people seem to forget that it is still a vehicle and it can be glanced to death like any other, the only difference is that in the Penetrating hit table it ignores all but the Explode! result and will take an additional D3 hullpoints instead of blowing up. Overall we both had a blast playing and didnt feel that it was a game winning model on the table, as the Hive Tyrant was chomping through units on the Space Marine side at the same time as the Knight was stomping through Termagaunts on the Tyranid side of the table. ~K
