So very sick of seeing handlers compete in the owner-handled series. Its in black and white folks...yet some still seem to think just because they own they are eligible. Its not rocket science!! Q. Can a professional handler co-own a dog in the AKC National Owner-Handled Series competition? A. No. Dogs cannot be owned or co-owned by a professional handler (as described at akc.org/ohs/about.cfm) and be exhibited in this competition. Q. My friend handles several dogs for people. Is she allowed to enter and compete in this series? A. Yes, as long as your friend is not or has never been in a professional handlers organization, distributed rate cards or otherwise represented themselves as a professional handler as described at akc.org/ohs/about.cfm. Dogs owned, co-owned or exhibited (on the day of competition) by professional handlers are not eligible for this competition. Dogs exhibited by current assistants and household members of a professional handler are not eligible to enter this class. A current assistant is defined as anyone employed by a professional handler on a full-time basis, or, assisting a professional handler at the show or any show during the cluster/weekend. Professional handlers are defined as any person who belongs or has belonged to a professional handlers organization, distributed rate cards, or otherwise advertised or represented themselves as handling dogs for pay.
