So we have 1 rooster left and hes actually an awesome rooster, but he leaves the hens barebacked and bare winged and theyre all sunburned (and irritated too Im sure). Rather than turn him into soup were trying really hard to keep him around. Tonight I cut the tips off his spurs with a hacksaw. Theyre like toenails so it doesnt hurt and of course were very gentle in handling all of our animals, but it was certainly a new experience for us here on the farm (kind of like every day it seems). There was a bit of blood loss with one spur, but hes fine and now sporting a well-adhered bandage to prevent infection.
