So......we received our annual enrollment packet for our insurance for the year 2015. When I was hired in June 2007 I was told I could enroll for insurance through walmarts plans for their associates. In January of 2008 was when the coverage officially started for my family. I have been pleased with how little I had to pay and how great the insurance was. Each year the cost of our insurance would only raise by .5% or less. That is until this year. This year our health insurance went up by just under 9% of what we paid last year. Let me put it to you this way. From 2008 to 2014 our insurance costs only increased a little over 3%. This year alone it increased by 9%. Let me end with this. 30,000 associates no longer have insurance through walmart because the ACA does not require a business to offer insurance to employees that work less than 30 hours a week. 2 years ago a single associate working part time wouldve been able to have been insured for less than $16 a pay period. Thats every two weeks. An associate working part time with children wouldve been able to have insurance for themselves and their children for $23 a pay period. I am literally shaking my head! And a little angry.
