So what are peoples thoughts on the 40mph speed restrictions? I think that initially we all obeyed. However, now the majority are clearly going faster. This is definitely based on the fact that residents regularly using the roads within the Mersey Gateway boundary have realised areas where work clearly isnt happening. Central Expressway up towards brookvale direction has no reason for that half mile to be 40mph all up hill. The danger comes as we all begin to stop believing the reliability of the 40mph warnings in the boundary. Then on a day when it is important to obey the advice, someone will get hurt due to speeding. Personally I think the speed should be changed as required. Permanent 40mph restriction throughout the site is only going to have us disbelieving the validity of the warning, especially in areas where its clear no works are underway. We want the workers and us road users to be safe. The 40mph restriction is already having the wrong affect on drivers. Its like the matrix signs on motorways, who ever truly believes them? After all how many times have you obeyed a warning for miles only to come across nothing (so theyve been left on) as you reach the END matrix. This repeat experience has you losing faith in matrix reliability. The same is happening with the speed restrictions within the Mersey Gateway boundary.
