So whats my opinion on the Ice Bucket challenge? On one hand, yes - TopicsExpress

So whats my opinion on the Ice Bucket challenge? On one hand, yes the videos of celebrities dumping water on themselves are silly, but at the same time, there are people living with this disease who are grateful to finally have some mainstream acknowledgement and getting a windfall of donations towards research. Like I said about racism earlier, its something people dont want to think about when it doesnt pertain to them, and yes that includes me. Ive known about the disease for years, and I wont lie, its something I never wanted to think about since I already dread growing old and frail, knowing Im going to one day catch cancer or Alzheimers if a heart attack doesnt claim me first. But even then, I can reasonably count on having 50-60 years to live. The man in the video Im sharing has 6. Hes 26 and was recently diagnosed with ALS. Through no fault of his own, hes already starting to waste away. I skipped the first two minutes because its just another silly take on the ice bucket challenge--you can see it later if you want--I just wanted to jump to the point where he talks about the disease and his reaction to being diagnosed and how its already starting to take hold. Its literally one of the most heartwrenching things Ive seen in my life. Like me, hes in reasonably good health but is already starting to lose it. The ice bucket fad will eventually fade away, but people with this disease will still be suffering. youtu.be/h07OT8p8Oik?t=1m59s
