So where are all the jobs in your Obama-era economic recovery? As I just noted elsewhere below, corporatism simply cannot tolerate a critical mass of educated people. They will eventually figure out what is going on & challenge it. Yet some of this was probably structural, & not entirely purposeful. The corporate elite loved NAFTA precisely because it enabled them to move jobs to Mexico for cheap labor; they love global trade in the broader sense because it enables them to outsource jobs to India & China, so that if your occupation isnt hands-on ... if, that is, it doesnt require you to touch someone or something physically ... youre toast. I am no longer sure what will stop our headlong rush into the situation I call techno-feudalism: a very small ruling superelite class which knows no national borders or loyalties, a somewhat larger but still very small middle class of functionaries doing the bidding of the ruling superelite, political classes maintaining national borders as decorations which also service the ruling superelite, & permanently indebted, permanently cash-strapped masses who are completely & permanently controlled by their economic circumstances, being told (if they have jobs at all) its better than nothing. This system will, of course, retain universities. They will teach job skills, inculcate debt servitude, & keep you distracted with sports.
