So, yeah, the Smash Bros for 3DS demo is really shallow in content, but combining what I saw this morning during the full-version live stream and my own experiences, I can say that Ill probably get this one after the worlds had its chance to point out its flaws. Basically, its exactly what youd expect from a Smash Bros game. The formula hasnt changed much over the years, and unfortunately, the Kid Icarus-esque currency system isnt featured in the one playable mode in the demo. You get five characters (Link, Mario, Pikachu, and newcomers Villager and Megaman) to diddle around with. Theres one stage that can be played either normally or in Omega mode which just makes it completely flat like Final Destination. The only game mode is timed score competition, and theres no online functionality whatsoever. There is, however, local multiplayer, so on the 19th when this demo hits the eShop for real, youll have that to look forward to. I took a chance to play a round with both of the new characters available, and as a veteran Smash player, you might be interested to know what I though. Villager: Theres a lot of potential for this little guy (or gal). The Villagers moves are fairly unique, and his recovery move (although not doing any damage) is probably the best one ever. Its an unorthodox character, and while Im sure that some will love him, the Villager will definitely be a niche character. Megaman: Holy crap, Megaman. This is one of the first characters (if not THE first) to be primarily (and almost entirely) ranged. Most of Megamans attacks fire out of his buster cannon, making him perfect for keeping enemies at a distance. Hes also fairly quick, and his moveset is extremely versatile. His recovery move requires some solid reflexes, but it has a neat little nuance that Ill let you figure out on your own. I really enjoyed Megaman.
