Social media, twitter and such like, has really opened the gates at Bedlam. I got this message today that’s apparently doing the rounds. “Today I was talking to one of my best friends, who is a Muslim, and his words in regard what has been happening in Sydney really touched me and I think they need to he shared. “I don’t understand how people believe this guy is representing my religion and this is what my religion teaches people. I was reading over facebook and there were people insulting my religion, telling us to go back home…when i’m an australian myself. How does my religion determine where i’m from, I was born here. I felt disgusted, people were taking out their anger and frustation towards my religious beliefs because if this guy who holds up a flag that had religious writing of ours. Nowhere in our religion does it say preach violence, we aren’t even supposed to fight back when someone wants to fight you, we have to try and avoid it unless the other person persists. We aren’t allowed to kill innocent people for any reason. The only time we are permitted to fight back is when a group wages war against our religion. But I was on facebook and instagram last night and I saw the #illridewithyou campaign and it brought a tear to my eye, I didn’t feel like shit amymore. The amount of people who responded was amazing. And these people are the type of people who knlw muslims, who are friends with them and don’t base their percetions of what they hear/see in the media. I wish I could sit down, talk to every single person and tell them what my religion is about. Because all people need to do is learn. And I will say this, my religion is perfect but I’m not” Abz Sadiqi your words really touched me and I think they are so true. Thank you for this words and for letting me share it. #illridewithyou Moving, isn’t it. What a bunch of bullshit!
