Socials Shine as Amateurs Slip Another mixed bag of results - TopicsExpress

Socials Shine as Amateurs Slip Another mixed bag of results this weekend, as the socials got up for their first win of the season while the amateurs and reserves both suffered defeats in tough matches. Goals from Jake Fiasci (2) and a mysteriously reappearing Cam Wright secured three points for the social team away at Olympic Kingsway, and by all accounts Ben Garlands side was great value for the 3 points. Enjoy the win lads, its been coming! The first team match started evenly, with big Fish missing a great chance to put Caversham in front early, as he got on the end of a free kick but the ball went narrowly wide. 15 minutes in, Joondalup took the lead as a smart finish from the edge of the box caught Ben Mann by surprise and the ball found its way into the bottom left corner of the net. Seven minutes later, scores were level as Eddie Stuf was played through and he made no mistake in putting the ball past the United keeper. Five minutes later though, Joondalup was back in front in strange circumstances as a poor throw out from Mann in goals was punished by an alert Joondalup player who knocked the ball back to goal, and Ben could only get far enough back to push the ball into his own net. United had the chance to go further ahead from the penalty spot on the stroke of half time, however Ben Mann did well to save to his left and keep the score at 2-1 at the break. Joondalups lead was extended 10 minutes into the second half and was then out to 4-1 courtesy of a well taken volley following some great build up play from United. Despite holding a match winning lead, a couple of the Joondalup lads started kicking out and found their way into the refs book, before one hot head decided to clean up Edwin and saw himself red carded with five to go. Caversham pulled a consolation goal back in injury time as Eddie headed home a well placed Zac Li cross, and 4-2 was how it finished as the first team tasted defeat for the first time in 2014. In the reserves match, an early injury to Waino and dummy spit by Cam forced some early changes but the boys battled hard throughout. Joondalup took the lead 15 minutes in, direct from an inswinging corner, before going 2-0 up on 25 minutes. Caversham grabbed a lifeline 5 minutes before half time, as a 20 yard thunderbolt from Amir came down off the bar and Neo was first to react as he raced in to poke the ball home for 2-1 at half time. A Joondalup penalty on the hour mark to make it 3-1 should have sealed victory for the home side, however a superb free kick from Caleb Russell brought it back to 3-2 with twenty to go. Despite some late pressure however, the Wolves couldnt break through for an equaliser as the home side ran out 3-2 winners. So now focus goes onto next weeks matches as Gosnells City visits the Den. Must win matches for the Amateur sides, and everyone is expected at training this week to get ready for these big games.
