Soldiers from the New York Medical Recruiting Center kicked off the 2014 Memorial Day weekend by volunteering at Parkslope CHiPs Soup Kitchen. The Soldiers helped prep a healthy nutritious meal for lunch by cutting, slicing and chopping fresh vegetables. They set tables, served meals and prepared bagged lunches. The Park Slope Christian Help Inc. was founded in 1971 by members of the St. Francis Javier Church. Today, the organization is operated solely on volunteers of the Park Slope Community. The soup kitchen provides breakfast and lunch for an average of 250 people daily. SSG James Hall, the organizer of the event stresses the significance of outreach to local underserved communities, The physical ability to give back to people is an internal gratification, it is selfless service. Your character as a Soldier and overall person is characterized by actions of providing servitude for the real benefit of helping others in need. It is important for every human being to receive a healthy nutritious meal and support from people who care. Its not enough, but its a start -its hope for the day and thats what matters. The New York City Medical Recruiting Center serve as excellent ambassadors for the Fort Hamilton Military Community, the 1st Medical Recruiting Brigade and the United States Army
