Some GREAT thoughts from my ever-thinking friend, Denzil - TopicsExpress

Some GREAT thoughts from my ever-thinking friend, Denzil Mason: The number of true Americans is rapidly diminishing. There was once a time when people could make the statement, I am an American and I am a member of the democrat / republican party. That statement has been perverted to, I am a democrat / republican therefore I am a true American and you are not an American because you are not a member of my party. As far as I am concerned, anyone who falls into the latter category is not a true American. Anyone willing to place the desires of their party, its elected officials, and its monetary contributors as a higher priority than the needs of ALL citizens is not a true American. Anyone unwilling to take part in legitimate discussions then come to an agreement / compromise that benefits the greatest number of citizens, is not a true American. Political commercials have begun and I keep hearing statements about never compromising our beliefs, fight for our party, this is a battle we will win, etc., etc. Washington DC should be an arena for educated, informed, honest, open discussion and not a battleground. Compromise is the result of individuals with differing beliefs coming together and agreeing to do what is best for a majority of citizens, not just one party and it is not a 4-letter word. The role of our elected officials is to represent and do what is best for ALL of their constituents and this country, not to make sure their party wins. Washington should be an arena for open discussion, a place where disagreements are civil, a beacon of hope for the future for all Americans, not a battleground.
