Some folks claim theyve been chased by copperheads and cottonmouths. What theyve actually done is misinterpreted natural behaviors, particularly those of flight, in which the animal senses danger and bolts for its nearest hiding place... which may be between itself and the threat (eg. the human). This will look like the animal is coming at you... but of course that would run counter to its prime directive as an exothermic critter, which is to not spend energy needlessly and not get itself hurt.
