Some food for thought for some OLD TIMERS: Doing my yearly Social Security Review and took a look at my payment history As an Airman 3rd class (was single0 and over seas) Made $89.46 a month : 44.58 every 2 weeks roughly NOTE Military Pd on 1st and 15th of month In 1967 as an A1C and newly married wife and one daughter Made 254.16 per month : 127.08 evey 2 weeks 1972 as a SSgt with wife and 4 children (Family of 6) Made 536.10 per month : 268.08 every 2 weeks So advancing in Rank eventually reaching MSgt E7 ( Family of 5 or 7 depending if oldest and husband in house and getting ready to retire Oct 1982 I was making: 1694.08 per month : 847.04 Went to work for Sheriff Dept as lowly deputy Nov 1983 so first full year was 1984 (Still 5 at home) Made 17,528 or 1460.00 per month WITH ONLY 1 PAYDAY PER MONTH ( Had to learn how to re manage money to last for a whole mmonth NOT JUST 2 weeks So between 1982 and retirement Dec 31 2003 pay increased slowly to my highest level of earning in my retirement year 2003 made 50,405 or 4200.00 per month My retirement funding to date consist of AF Retirement, WY State Law Enforcement Retirement, VA Disability Compensation and Social Security drawn at 62). Sharron started to draw Social Security at 62 With cost of living increases and increase in disability rating fundsfor us have increase to making: $6380.00 per month - 4 of us (wife and 2 daughters and I) Even with making more in retirement than I made in active working jobs both of us feel that we were living better making the $254 to $536 per month – paying for house, car, food, entertainment etc. Dah go figure – guess that I should have started out retired and not have all that humping at work.
