Some good national economic news -- 321,000 jobs last month, 2014 strongest hiring year since 1999, six year low unemployment rate, economy expanding over past six months at fastest rate in a decade, hourly rates had largest increase in 17 months (but not nearly enough). These stats are all the more impressive given that Japan is in recession and Europe stagnating. The US economy is more self-sufficient, powered by domestic consumers who account for 70% of US economic activity. This is why it is imperative for our economic, budget and tax policy to be directed at strengthening the middle class rather than those at the very top. Many people are still struggling and we have a long way to go, but positive news should be acknowledged.
