Some good news for voting rights! The decision doesn’t resolve Ohio’s early voting controversy. Earlier this year, the Republican-controlled legislature passed a law that reduces the early voting period by six days, including the so-called “Golden Week” when people can register and vote at the same time. Soon after, Husted announced that there would be no Sunday voting, not any week-day early voting after 5 pm. He cited the need for uniformity across counties, though the populations of Ohio’s counties vary widely. With the exception of the Sunday before the election, those cuts are all still in place. They are being challenged by the ACLU, which has alleged in a lawsuit that they violate the Voting Rights Act. #Vote2014
