Some interesting discussion occurred in my elders quorum about being wel versed in the history of the church so that we can answer some of the question our friends have; but more importantly so that we would not falter because of the things we may here. I brought up the false teachings surrounding the reason for the priesthood ban. I did so to test the waters in my quorum to see if they truly were ready to support me in that area. I received some mixed reactions. One thought I was attacking the church but most understood. We were discussing the Gays and Lesbians in the church and understanding them. I threw out the point that I still want to be understood and how the negative teachings effect Blacks who may find those teachings. I think all the fence sitting doctrines are sufficiently debunked, but the hurt to those of us who suffered through believing them for years, like me, may still need nurturing. This is why I need this page. I can come here and get some understanding--the type of understanding that I wish to one day get in my quorum. I have found the page that talks about the things assumed before the 1978 revelation and it thrills me. Look at that! I am sure that most of us understand what the 1978 revelation is! It is great to have a place for understanding. I share my witness that Thomas S. Monson is truly a prophet of God and that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the only true and living church on the earth because the Spirit bore witness to me that it is. I just want us all to be clear. I know and love this gospel and fortunately for me I question nothing a this point in my life. I know that I am inviting a trial by type that and I fearfully accept the consequence of so saying. What I am say is that my feelings are still hurt about the past and I want understanding and compassion because those feelings have not gone away.
