Some music history that a lot of folks may not know. I find them fascinating and these folks deserve a lot of credit for changing the entertainment world with their revolutionary insight and inventions. Laurens Hammond (Hammond Organs), never learned how to play the organ proficiently. Laurens Hammond built the cool mantle clocks and they were the first clocks to use synchronous AC motors. Laurens Hammond made use of a Bell Labs invention that simulated the delay sound that was heard on long distance phone lines. This lead to the evolution of the Accutronics reverberation module. Alan Young (engineer working for Hammond Organ) is credited for solving some inherent problems and making it smaller in 1960. Dick Dale blew up 49 amps before Leo Fender redesigned the amp with an 85 watt output transformer and called it the Showman Amp. Leo Fender needed a speaker robust enough to handle the new high power, so he asked James B. Lansing (JBL) to develop a more powerful speaker. He came up with the 15 JBL D130 speaker. Dick Dale also inspired Leo Fender to develop the first ever left handed electric guitar. Leo Fender eventually discovered the Accutronics reverb tank and implemented it into his Fender Twin amp and renamed it Twin Reverb. This amp also sported the new 85 watt power transformer. Meanwhile, a kid named Eric Clapton had blown up his Fender Bassman amp. Eric went to Jim Marshalls drum shop and asked him to repair the amp. All his buddies were raving about how good the shop was at repairing amps. Jim commissioned two employees to develop a better sounding amp that had a sound that all the lads wanted to hear. They came up with the JTM45. Jim Marshalls new JTM45 kept blowing up the typical two speakers found in most amps of the day. So he came up with the idea of putting four 12 speakers into the smallest cabinet he could build (personally). Walla, the first 4x12 cabinet was born. And the rest as they say . . .
