Some of my favorite Thanksgiving memories: 1 - My grandmother putting a ceramic bowl of cigarettes on the table next to the cranberry sauce. 2 - Dinner at My girlfriends sisters house. Dinner was at 3. She said, I dont understand why the turkey is still frozen. I pulled it out of the freezer at 10 this morning. Her husband then took it out back, used a hacksaw to cut it into small pieces, and they microwaved it. 3 - Same sister, same day. 20 people are at dinner. The mashed potatoes get passed to me, and the bowl is empty. She says, I dont understand it. I mashed 8 potatoes! If you know me and mashed potatoes, you know how devastating this was. 4 - I grew up with instant mashed potatoes. First year my girlfriend made dinner, she was peeling potatoes in the sink. I said, What are you doing? She said, What does it look like? Im making mashed potatoes I said, If you were out of the boxed stuff, you should have told me. I would have picked some up. I got no potatoes. 5 - Going to dinner at my aunts house. My mother wouldnt let us eat anything all day because we would ruin our appetite. We got there at 3. We ate at 6. My brother and I almost passed out. My aunt asked if we wanted seconds on turkey and potatoes. As we were about to say YES! my mother gave us that mom death look meaning, Dont even think about it. 6 - Going to dinner at my dads side of the familys huge dinner in Hoboken. My mother made us wear suits. Every other kid there was in jeans. Oh, also we had bowties.
