Some of my friends who drive have told me that they would gladly pay 4K for COE anytime, and that if COE was only 4K for cars, they would snatch it up without any hesitation. Whats the fuss all about they wonder, Its ONLY 4K, they say. True enough, the figure of 80K dwarfs 4.2K, but hello my friend, 80K or 4.2K, both are mere papers were paying for. You have metal for protection, we have none. In fact, we love our bikes so much so that sometimes when we drop/skid, we would rather us be hurt than our bikes. You have aircon for comfort, we have to brave through all weathers - the sun, the humidity, the heat, the rain, the drizzle, and even the haze. You have the convenience of fetching your family & friends around - we only have space for an extra person (and if this person doesnt have a helmet, means no fetching!). You have boot space for your grocery bags, shopping bags, shoes, luggage, we only have a small compartment under our pillion seat to keep our parking coupons, insurance and maybe a pen. And of cos there are those who sacrifice aesthetics for convenience and install a box. A million and one other differences between a bike and a car and clearly this isnt an apple to apple comparison. Just because 4K isnt 80K doesnt mean we dont feel the pinch. COE for cars is already at its peak and what goes up must come down, and what is down will surely go up! Thats exactly whats happening to the motorcycle COE now. It will only SOAR. I bought my bike for $1,350 - I can already buy 3 of my bike with the current COE. So drivers, please dont laugh at us when we whine about the COE because were in the exact same plight as you. And please dont mind my lengthy post, I am really just disturbed by the results of each COE bidding exercise. So whens the next one!?
