Some of our capitalist conservative Christians [in that order] - TopicsExpress

Some of our capitalist conservative Christians [in that order] have created a new holy trinity for themselves consisting of unfettered capitalism, fake patriotism, and hardline, judgmental Christianity. [Again, in that order] They believe that business is business, and that nothing is more important than the business of business. Profit is king, and their economic system is so important to them that it has been elevated to a level of Holy righteousness, possibly even endorsed by God. This has created a disconnect in their minds that allows them to believe that financial concerns can be kept separate and apart from the interests of humanity and in most cases not even subject to the constraints of morality. They can not see the moral conflict of consuming more of the worlds resources than they need, or probably even want to perpetuate an unsustainable system that benefits a relative few while so much more of the worlds population lack very basic needs. Surely if they believe in God they would believe that he put those resources here for everyone not just for whoever can snatch them up the fastest. Yet I personally know those who believe that human beings dont have a right to anything, including but not limited to food/water, shelter/clothing, or healthcare. anything done in the name of the economy is acceptable. Even the privatizing of the water supply [probably air too if they could figure out how to package it]. If doing what is good for your economy is bad for your people, you have the wrong economy. I often wonder if Christianity and capitalism are even reconcilable in any way.
