Some of the most fervent supporters of the Second Amendment often justify their need to be armed so as to be able to overthrow a hypothetical tyrannical government & believe that them being armed help keep (democratically elected) governments in check. The scenes this week in Ferguson, MO give graphic proof of the absurd arms race that the US public finds itself in. The ridiculous over militarization of our police forces, primarily a result of surplus equipment from our countrys over militarization, will either result in American citizens bulking up their own arsenals in order to be able to compete, or better still will initiate a broader discussion on the availability of such weaponry on the streets of our cities. I hope its the latter.
