Some of the most fun I had directing was on the season 1 finale fight sequence between Optimus and Megatron. After watching Megatron cross the line time and again Optimus comes to the conclusion that Megatron must die! With that in mind I wanted to forgo some of the fancy choreography wed seen before in favor of Optimus coming straight in to take Megatrons head off. Less Michael Bay style, and more Martin Scorcese. I actually sent overseas clips from Raging Bull, and referenced the gunfight scene in Tombstone between Doc Holiday and Johnny Ringo for when the bots are trying to blast each in the face at point blank. Polygon didnt want to animate Optimus spinning his tires in Megatrons face but supervising director Dave Hartman fought for it and it turned out beautiful. I was lucky to get Adam I go to 11 Van Wyck to board on it. Considering the limitations of budget and keeping it kid friendly, I thought it turned out pretty cool! https://youtube/watch?v=ns7ekYD4cck
