Some of the narrative and rhetoric behind current events really scares me, not because people are stuck in their feelings and prejudices, but because they are convinced that the people they talk about dont possess the intelligence or desire to change their circumstance. And my question is, when options are presented to progress towards that change, how can anyone with compassion not only deny those talked-about people the possibility, but give no practical reasons why, and be convinced that the status quo is what works, when it clearly doesnt, at least not in its entirety? So youre basically relegating people to their fate, and expecting them to just magically straighten up and fly right, with no help, no confidence in the things that could help, and a complete dismissal of the blatant need FOR that help. Thats dismissive, depressing, and really, really, scary.
