Some of you may know my father, George L. Banakos (aka Mr.B) Some may know him because you worked for him or with him Some may know him because you were one of his customers. Some may not know him at all, so for you let me tell you a little about him. My dad has been married to my mother for 41 years (42 in December). He has three children, my sister, myself and my brother Chris (Asst. Deli Manager for MB). He has 5 grandchildren, 4 granddaughters and 1 grandson. He was brought up in Chelmsford, Ma He has lived in the same house in Pelham, NH for 32 years. My dad enjoys his free time playing with his grandchildren, having a nice family dinner with everyone there, afternoons on his boat, his trips to Aruba and his lawn...he loves that damn lawn!! He also enjoys a nice shot of Sambuca. My father has been an associate of Market Basket for 44 years now. That is my entire life plus 7 years. What that means for those that dont work for the company is the following: In this time He has missed our sporting events, school concerts, plays, seeing us off to our proms, holidays, dinners with family on his week night on while he was a manager, Saturdays and Sundays off (leaving my mother to basically be a single mother for all those years) and so much more. He never complained about missing these things because the company treated him so well. He was treated like a person not an employee. He busted his rump to make sure we always had we needed. We were not rich by any means but I NEVER remember being without what we wanted. I mentioned seeing us off to Prom - well, my junior in high school my prom was on my dads night to work. Since he couldnt be home, my date and I went to store #31 so he could take a picture of us. Oh to be young and just not care anymore. I used to love going to the store to see my dad working. Although he could never visit for long he always took a few minutes to come out and see us. While he was visiting with us he was constantly organizing the meat case - no uneven rows, nothing in the wrong spot, not dates out of order - this behavior has now carried over to me and I cant just go to the store and get meat without having to arrange the case perfectly. In the many years he has worked here he has made several friends. Some of which are considered family now. When he was a manager his department was his family. He cared for each and every one of them. They were constantly brought up in conversations at dinner. One of his wrappers he was especially close to. Unfortunately, she passed away from an Aneurysm. One day in the early hours of the day, my dad and Nancy were putting out the meat when she said she wasnt feeling well. A few minutes later she was down on the floor in my dads arms. My dad was the last person she saw. I know for a fact that she was able to pass away peacefully because she was in the arms of someone who truly loved and appreciated her. Why am I telling you this? Because my father would give you the shirt off his back. He would never let someone sit there alone. His parents instilled this in him, but your CEO, Mr. Arthur T Demoulas, reminded him of this every single day. Today I stand with all of the Market Basket family, because if you are half of the person my dad is, then you are pretty damn awesome. I stand behind Mr. ATD because he is a genuine man. A man who doesnt go against his word. A man of loyalty, family, honesty, integrity and love. Over the past week I have countless of stories of how wonderful this man is. I didnt need to read those as I have experienced his kindness personally. You will get your CEO back. And when you do, please know that I will stand with you and help you make your stores the absolute BEST they can be. They will be better than ever because the trash would have left the building once and for all. Keep up the good fight...we are all #marketbasketstrong The pictures I am about to share are just a few of what you have standing in your corner.
