Some other piece, inspired by Medieval Flemish music. The story tells about a young prince walking in his garden, where he sees a beautiful nightingale singing. He goes up to the bird, and asks if the bird could deliver a letter to his lover. The bird doesnt really want to bring the letter, since hes so small, but the prince convinces him. The bird flies of, to the other kingdom. There, the bird meets the king. The king, however, says that the bird cant visit the princess, since she is sick. The bird sneaks around to her window, and knocks. When the princess lets the nightingale inside, the bird tells her that her lover, the prince, will marry another woman. Struck with grief and anger, the princess tells the bird that she will marry another man, if the prince is so unworthy of her love, to see who will be saddened first. The original song goes a bit further, telling how the prince marries three times. The first wife eats the eggs, while he can bite the egg shelves. The second wife eats meat, and he can gnaw the bone. The last wife eats the honey, while all he can do is lick the pot. The song was performed by Kadril, who do the instruments and the male voices. The female voice, however, is sung by a Spanish choir. They let the Spanish ladies sing the dutch lyrics, to give us a feel of how the old languages might have sounded ~Jacques De Molay
