Some people are really surprised at the news of Robin Williams death, saying, But how could he be unhappy, when he was so successful? This assumes that depression, and other such things, are logical. That if someone is good and talented, they will of course not be afflicted with it. I dont have depression, but I do know a few things about it. Depression isnt logical. You cant rack up happiness points to trade it away for something better. Depression is invisible. A depressed person can actually look perfectly fine to passersby, or to friends and family who dont understand what depression is. This leads to hilarious instances of other people saying, Snap out of it, and Youre just lazy and You could get better if you wanted to. If you feel upset by this event, please put that feeling to good use: Dont dismiss depression, or other invisible disorders. Support mental healthcare, and the people who need it.
