Some people have been asking IS THE ARKAROOLA ART ADVENTURE FOR ME? To help you decide Ive set out a few perspectives on what we will be doing and who might benefit, so you can see if the hat fits you!!! IS IT FOR YOU? • If you would simply like a creative adventure in an amazing Australian wilderness with a group of like-minded artists then this is for you. • If you are new to painting, drawing or photography and you want a truly inspiring place to start with an extremely sympathetic and supportive crew then the AAA is for you! Peter and I will mentor and provide some coaching and instruction, direction and positive feedback if thats what you feel you need. In addition, we will provide a very positive space where you are free to experiment to your hearts content. • If you already have some experience with painting, drawing and photograph then this will be a great chance to extend your practice through the interaction with other like-minded artists, through the input from Peter and myself and obviously through your own explorations. • Finally if you are an accomplished artist then we will be providing a stimulating platform for you to come and play with us - if you simply want to come and do your own thing thats really fine too. • If you are the partner of an artist and want to come but not participate in the program then we have a special rate that covers your accommodation and meals and leaves you free during the day to do your own thing while your partner paints etc. WHAT WILL WE DO? • Peter and I will facilitate a range of creative activities mostly centered around en plain air and studio painting, drawing and photography. Obviously the central themes will be the amazing landscape and the tensions of reality and abstraction but we may also do some figure work. • At times we we will work in two groups of 10 with Peter leading one group and myself the other and we will rotate the groups around. We may also work as one large group or with special small group focus sessions that you can opt into. There will also be free time for you to explore and experiment on your own. • There will be optional group workshops, discussions and presentations. • Peter and I will be available to coach and mentor, provide feedback if you want it and to answer your specific questions. WHAT DOES A DAY LOOK LIKE? DAY PROGRAM OPTIONS • An early morning walk or photo shoot for those who are interested. • Breakfast (included in the package) • An en plein air session in the cool of the morning at one of the waterholes or gorges painting, drawing and photographing - packed lunch (included in the package) - a session in the afternoon of the same. Arkaroola Resort will provide transport. • A workshop in the studio in taking the ideas from the previous day - developing ideas, for example; from en plien air painting to studio painting, drawing to studio painting, photography to studio painting etc. • Drawing and photography bush walks - there are some great trails and some good hills to climb to get a panoramic perspective on the landscape, perfect for camera and sketchpad. • Free time in the studio - we recognize that some days you may simply want some time to yourself so you may simply choose to hang out in the studio or the pool and work on your own ideas or your tan. • Arkaroola also offers an amazing Ridge Top Tour (not included in the package) that we would recommend. Its a 4 hours of 4x4 driving through very rugged desert mountains to the top of Mt. Painter. Truly spectacular, the experience of a lifetime. We see people taking these at their leisure. • Arkaroola also offers scenic flights (not included in the package). Equally amazing and worthwhile and again we see you taking these as a personal option. EVENING PROGRAM OPTIONS • Dinner (included in the package) • You may just want to relax after a big day of creativity so sitting around the barbecue or the bar with a few jolly ales or wines discussing all things creative or otherwise is definitely on the cards. • Evening studio time for your to continue your explorations. • Show and tell - we know that not everyone wants to show their work so this part is definitely an option. But for those who want to engage in a bit of shared experience we can facilitate some discussions around the works of the day and what we are learning and experiencing together. The Arkaroola studio space is a good place to display our work. • Evening presentations - We are going to put together a series of presentations that cover different aspects of creative practice - some ‘how toos’, some creative philosophy, some explorations of other artworks or art movements - all good material to keep us swimming in a rich creative soup. So if any of the above is interesting to you, or you want further information contact the Arkaroola Art Adventure team. [email protected] phone - 02 43824411 [email protected] petergriffen@bigpond
