Some students have expressed concern about the scare factor of Signs. The film has some frightening segments and a near-constant sense of foreboding. However, the film is not gory like a typical horror film, making this more of a thriller in the vein of Alfred Hitchcock, especially his work The Birds (which, fun fact, was the first Film Society film of the 2012-2013 school year!); its scare is in the unknown and unseen. In fact, The Birds may be more graphic than Signs. So while there are some scary portions, they are not played for mere shock value like they are in movies like Annabelle or Friday the 13th, but rather to further the ultimate purpose of showing this film: its message and sheer talent involved in the creation of this fantastic motion picture (which we will discuss per usual). And as one who doesnt like scary movies, I particularly love this film. So if you can, come tomorrow night at 6:30pm; itll be a great time! --Adam Johnson, student representative
