Some time ago, I was fortunate enough to care for a young person who was very badly injured in a motor vehicle accident. Time was so imperative that the patient went into cardiac arrest while being prepared for surgery. Yesterday, I received an email that the patient is going to make a full recovery, and the trauma surgeon who saved their life insisted that the swift assessment and care my preceptors and I provided en route to the hospital was paramount in the patients positive outcome. I know that if we werent there, some of my peers would have been, but its a remarkable feeling to know that in some way, you were a small part of a large response that ended with a person having a second chance at life.
