Some times, you are just going to die. I was teaching physiology - TopicsExpress

Some times, you are just going to die. I was teaching physiology training to pilots at the Aviation Physiology Training Unit at Cecil. We had everything from P-3s, S-3s, A-7s and eventually F/A-18 pilots and aircrew. I was quald to teach Parachuting techniques, ejection seat systems and survival equipment. One particular day we were short of instructors and had something going on at the branch clinic that pulled the rest of the corpsman, so I had to teach all three classes. We had a mixed bag aircraft pilot types going through the training, included a CAG and some senior officers, as well as a couple of ensigns. As I was going through the scenarios and procedures, one particular ensign would ask what if questions. I did my best to either answer the question or tap dance through it. But by the end of the day as I was giving the last class in survival equipment people were getting tired of all the questions. I was describing the deployment of the life raft. what if your knocked unconscious? I answered that there is a device called seawars that detaches the parachute upon saltwater activation, and your life preserver auto inflates as well. What if they malfunction! The senior officers looked down almost embarrassed and frustrated with all the questions. So I said, sir, we try to cover all scenarios, but sometimes...your just going to die. Everyone smiled, except the ensign.
