Some upcoming events: Thursday, September 19, 7 pm, Adams Wildlife Sanctuary Please join us for a presentation by Dr. Jonathan Reyman, Curator of Anthropology at the Illinois State Museum, about WingWise, a feather distribution project. Wingwise provides wild turkey, macaw, and parrot feathers to the Pueblo Indians of the American Southwest for traditional religious ceremonies to help them maintain their 1st Amendment rights under the Constitution. The project aims to eliminate the smuggling of endangered and threatened species of macaws and parrots, and, in turn, to reduce the destruction of native bird populations and their habitats in Latin America. Thursday, October 17, 7 pm, Adams Wildlife Sanctuary Vern LaGesse, Executive Director of Friends of Sangamon Valley, will discuss a new Illinois-based hike application for smart phones. The first hike available covers the Nipper Wildlife Sanctuary just southwest of Springfield. The goal is to have upward of 100 hikes available in the future. Please join us to learn about this exciting new technology that will help make the outdoors more accessible for novice and skilled hikers alike! Thursday, November 21, 7 pm Adams Wildlife Sanctuary Chris Young, Outdoor Editor at the State Journal Register, and Wade Kammin, owner of Springfield’s Wild Birds Unlimited will discuss their new backyard birding video series featured on prairiestateoutdoors and will offer backyard birding identification tips and advice. This program will help local birders further hone their backyard birding abilities.
