Someone I dont know private messaged me that DVDs of Song of the South, a 1940s Disney live-action-with-animated-segments film are for sale online, at a price point of $45. The PM was sent several weeks ago and I didnt see it til today, and I dont know what posting or conversation prompted the person to get in touch. With that said... Consumers, do due diligence homework before buying any Disney collectibles, including rare movie or cartoon titles, online! Disney has not released commercially legal home video copies of this title in years/generations! Most copies floating around online are bootlegs made by entrepreneurs off of Europe, Far East, South of the Border legal commercial copies and these entrepreneurs sense a money-making opportunity and hope to captivate your wallet. Read before you buy at this link posted below, at fan site SongOfTheSouth.net, and the book by Jim Korkis Whos Afraid of The Song of the South? about the history of the film and why Disney wont release it commercially anymore (short answer is that in our Politically Correct times of today Disney thinks this very old film released in the late 1940s is racist and doesnt want to offend consumers). The film is available on YouTube if all you want to do is simply view it, there are versions in pieces (find and view part 1, then find and view part 2, etc.) or a version intact at 1:47:00 running time, posted by fans, not officially by Disney, and could be removed at any time. This link below, also checking out the SongOfThe South.net unofficial fan site and the book I cited are pretty much due diligence consumer research for you if youre hoping Disney will relent and actually release a legal commercial version to US home video or for download. If you are further interested or wishing to inquire, contact The Disneyana Fan Club (formerly named National Fantasy Fan Club, The Club for Disneyana Enthusiasts) a non-profit social club of Disney fans with chapters all over the US, who also avidly collect memorabilia. They are highly knowledgeable about Disney history and memorabilia and collecting the various movies and animations, and can offer more info and guidance. They have a website, an annual Disney collectors convention coming up in July in Anaheim CA area, and a site on Facebook, and several local chapters all over the US. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Song_of_the_South
