Someone out there please help me to understand this: There are pastors and church leaders in our area that will not publicly speak out against a proposed casino supported by our County and City officials. (Many have so they are not intended to be included in this post). The pastors, church leaders and Christian congregations that wont speak out against it use as reasons: I or we are afraid it will affect our tax status. I or we dont wont to offend parts of our congregation who support it for fear of losing them. The work we are doing in the community is more important than the casino issue. The good work we are doing might be lessened by any efforts to be involved. We have friends and members on the boards and we believe they are good people. I or we believe the officials should be spoken to on a one to one basis with love. Let me just throw this out there and see where it sticks: The law says you can speak out about matters of faith in the pulpit without endangering your tax status. The only thing you cant do from the pulpit is support one political candidate over another. What ordinance from God gives you the right to choose which work He wants you to do? If you offend by speaking the truth, shouldnt you anyway? How do you decide which of His works are more important than another, arent they all equally important? Should friendships trump Gods Word? How has speaking to them individually with love worked out for you? There are many reasons a casino shouldnt be here and all of them may not be directly from Gods Word but they are all indirectly associated with His Will. If you disagree with this let me know.
