Something I found online today- we build these! We have built several homes with indoor basketball courts. This has been a lot of fun and challenging. These indoor courts are about 30x35 with ceilings heights a minumum of 17. Most of the homeowners have chosen to put a thin carpet on the walls and an industrial gym carpet on the floor. The carpet reduces the noise and is more kid friendly. The activities in these indoor gyms range from basketball, volleyball, raquetball, gymnastics, and even golf. I actually built a basketball court in my house and it only gets used 3 or 4 times a day. My 5 year old son Brock plays in there the most. He is getting to be a great little ball player. He also hits hard foam golf balls in the gym and is developing into a great little golfer. My 7 year old daughter practices gymnastics in there. My two year old son rides his trike and loves to run around. Building the gym in our house has been a great thing. The cost of the gym was about the cost of a ski boat, but we certainly get a lot more use out of the gym than a boat. I will have Jake post the plans on a blog. I recently added another blog regarding indoor basketball courts. I will paste another copy here in case you cant find it elsewhere. With March Madness going on, I am getting more and more people asking about house plans with indoor basketball courts. I have built several of them now and have tried different techniques. Jake has designed a few homes with the court in the basement. However, the home needs to big very large to accommodate the room. We have also built homes with indoor basketball courts under the garage. I tend to like this option because it means virtually any home plan can have an indoor basketball court. As I have mentioned before, we built our personal home about nine years ago. We built it with an indoor basketball court and have loved it. We live in an area of the country where we have cold long winters. It is so nice to have a place for our family to be active. A home gym can be used for so many activities like basketball, racquetball, gymnastics, climbing, skating, and even golf. We hit those yellow foam golf balls in ours. We are building a few homes this spring with courts in them. Both of them will be underneath a suspended slab below the garage.
