Something completely Pay it Forward cool happened to me tonight. I attended a Cops and Kids golf tournament fundraiser dinner. One of the items they had was a team signed Dallas Cowboys football. I am a fan, but a friend of mine is a huge fan. I bought $20 worth of raffle tickets. I then learned that all proceeds go to the Loma Linda Childrens Hospital. I asked her if they take checks, since that $20 is all I had (no, no matter what you think I am not rolling in green over here.) She said yes so I bought another $40. I went to check out the football again and the man in charge of the event was standing at the table. He told me that he had been a Dallas fan from the 60s. He had written the woman who handles publicity for the Cowboys asking if they had any items. In turn she sent him a team signed football. About a half an hour later I walked back into the room (the event had not started yet). She was standing there with the man. She said she could tell that I was a good hearted person. Someone with a kind heart and a wonderful soul. Someone that helps people, that makes people feel happy. I replied, I try. She then told me, we would like you to have this and the man gave me the ball. I teared up, not because of the ball, the signatures, the team, but because of that sudden act of natural born kindness. The man gave me a hug and said God bless you. It was a stellar moment. Point of the story is this: Even if you do not have the funds, can only do a little bit to help others, do it. Just what you can. Sometimes things just get paid back forward to you. No, you might not have this story happen to you, but that $60 I paid just helped contribute to a 2 year old child dying from cancer. A 2 year old child thats family has never had the monetary wealth or means to go to Disneyland. They are going to Disneyland with a park pass and a 2 night stay at the resort. Oh, and that 2 year old, will be dead by Christmas. And yes, I am keeping the ball. Not necessarily because of its value. But because it will be a constant reminder to me of this night, and a constant reminder for me to always give what I can, when I can, to achieve the goal of what this woman thought of me and to assist others in any way I can. And, lets face it, its a Wilson. We gotta stick together.
