Something everyone needs to know about slander/libel/defamation etc, because I have seen so many postings about people claiming that they are going to pursue legal action against someone who is saying something they dont like. First, its difficult to prove. Second, no one seems to know what is ACTUALLY slander. Someone expressing an opinion or saying something about you that is not flattering, is NOT slander. Neither is them bringing up skeletons from your closet, unflattering things youve done, or ILLEGAL things you have done. If it is entirely true, but causes damage to your reputation or business, its simply your own fault for making poor choices. By definition is the communication of a false statement that harms the reputation of an individual Key word here is FALSE. It must be completely a lie, and you must be able to prove damages. So, if you lose business because people find out you have engaged in illegal activities, or you have acted inappropriately, or shown poor ability to make decisions, because the information was brought to light by individuals based on complete fact, again, that means it is simply you paying for your mistakes.
