Something to learn for this month..CHodesh Tov everyone! :D There I was FROZEN. Standing in the middle of a stage, 3 judges in front of me, an audience of mothers, with stage lights blinding my sight. Youre probably wondering how I got here. After months of training it was finally time to travel to NYC (for my first time) I was going to compete in a professional dance competition. We stayed at the fancy Grant Hyatt hotel and had dance seminars with the best choreographers in the industry. Not to brag but this girl met beyonces choreographer. I was going to perform a ballet solo. The night of the competition came, I was excited and nervous but definitely felt ready. The vibrant music, red curtain, the costumes made me feel every inch of my body. They called my name and I walked up to the corner of the stage as rehearsed and waited for my music; the music started and so did I. Next thing I remember was staring at the faces in the audience and seeing everyones mothers except for mine. My mom couldnt come since we could barely afford the trip for myself. As that thought pondered my head, I suddenly realized I stopped moving; my legs were still and my arms tightly attached to my body and me standing still in the middle of the stage. Those were the longest 7seconds of my life. I was able to pick up from where I was and continued my dance on cue and ended flawlessly. I remember running of the stage to my teachers arms, hugged her with tears in my eyes as she whispered to my ear, “You were doing so great. Sometimes, despite our efforts the results arent what we expect, yet we have to learn to keep dancing to the rhythm of life.
