Something wonderful happened to us recently, wed like to share it with you. As you may know, weve recently released Sixteen Days as a single. The song is based on bassist Mikes grandfather, and the story of how he survived for 16 days on a lifeboat after being torpedoed in WWII. After the release, we were actually contacted by the son of one of the other survivors! After a bit of research, we found his name, and even his home address in Mikes grandfathers diary. The son had loads of lovely memories of his father, a humble man who used to sometimes quietly mention his 16 days in an open boat around the dinner table, and subsequently would always clear his plate at mealtimes, having experienced such hunger as we could only imagine. It truly feels an honour for us to have touched on something that is still affecting people today, long may the memories continue. TDWs x
